Intellectual Property

Techno Park

1. Rationale

King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) is a higher education institution specializing in science, technology, and innovation. The university emphasizes the development and creation of technologies, inventions, and innovations for the benefit of society and the nation. These efforts are integrated into its missions in teaching, research and development, academic services, and cultural preservation. The university fosters innovation by encouraging students, faculty, and researchers to develop solutions and processes that address industrial needs.

KMUTNB has continuously delivered industry-relevant innovations. As per the 2022 Ministry of Higher Education’s university classification, KMUTNB is categorized in Group 2: Technology and Innovation Development. This reflects the university's focus on creating technology, inventions, and innovations. To drive full-scale commercialization, the university established KMUTNB Technology Park, which spans its three campuses, each tailored to local context. It serves as a central (One Stop Service) hub for coordinating academic services, advanced research, and innovation development.

Currently, there is no dedicated unit managing intellectual property (IP) and entrepreneurship to support patent registration and commercialization. Thus, to fulfill the mission of turning research into practical applications and promote a thriving innovation ecosystem, KMUTNB recognizes the need to establish such a unit.

Therefore, KMUTNB Technology Park proposes the creation of the “Intellectual Property Service and Startup Alliance Acceleration Center” which will be responsible for the university’s Technology Licensing Office (TLO) and University Business Incubator (UBI), enhancing operational efficiency and impact.
